Sleep Therapy
How to establish from the very first a sustainable and comprehensive routine for a newborn Most babies respond very well and quite quickly to a regular routine which starts from day one. This entails keeping track of the times that the baby was fed, how much he/she has taken, and the amount of ‘play’ or awake time the baby has had.
It is difficult for a new mother to realise how important even 15 extra minutes can change the routine and how all through the next 24hours one must juggle the times to return to the initial routine. Leaving the baby to sleep first thing in the morning is so very tempting as what can the harm be after all?? let sleeping babes lie:Ah, but thereby lies the rub!! For you will be paying for those snatched hours in the middle of the night when your baby wants to be wide awake.
This is where my knowledge and now instinctive reactions can help, and through a few days of work together with the mother, establish a day of pleasant and stress free routine.
What happens in the day is of vital importance as to how the night will turn out. It is understanding how many waking hours your baby needs that sets the pattern for the night.
By stimulating and encouraging your baby through the waking hours and allowing enough wind down time that is the key to your success in achieving a happy well- balanced contented baby.
